A while ago, I got rid of my two Telecasters. I had built them both myself, but they were never quite as nice as I wanted them to be. I sold them and bought a cheap Epiphone Les Paul Jr to just focus on playing for a while.

And that worked fine, but yesterday I got a bit of an itch and bought something I maybe shouldn’t have:

Kinja'd!!!

It’s a Fender American Special, which is kinda their budget American guitar...retails for a few hundred dollars less than a Standard. I’m not usually a rosewood fretboard guy, but I love it with the Lake Placid Blue.

The specs seem pretty good for me. Alder body, so it’ll be light. Texas Special pickups, so it should be a nice blues/classic rock machine. I spent so much time fucking around with building my own, it’ll be nice to have one that just works for once.

The main reason I did it now is because of the place I bought it from, Zzounds. I didn’t want to drop a big lump sum on a guitar, and they do a no-interest pay as you play thing. Also, their service and shipping is unbelievable: they’re in NJ, I’m in RI, I bought the thing at 3pm Tuesday and it’s due to be delivered on Wednesday.

So that's a thing that I maybe shouldn't have done but I'm pretty excited that I did. Pictures of the real thing tonight!

Gotta love a telecaster, I think it just looks way better than a strato. I bet you won’t regret it.

It's pretty sexy, I love the blue with the rosewood, and I always wanted an American. Hopefully it lives up to the hype.

I always wanted a Sunburst Telecaster - congrats on the purchase! You’ll love it.

I love the color, and of course the fact it’s a Tele. I’ve never owned one, I’ve always said, “I’m getting a Tele next” then something else firmly grabs hold of my attention.

I’m getting a Tele next.

I messed with Strats and Les Pauls for a while, then I picked up a Tele and it just felt right: just a big damn slab of wood with a neck on it, no funny curves.

If you want to get a Tele without spending a lot of money, the Squire Classic Vibe 50s is a FANTASTIC guitar for the money. Plus it comes in Butterscotch Blonde, so you can pretend to be Keef or Bruce with relative ease.

I’ve had a number of Strats and Gibson SG’s and LP’s come and go over the years (among other makes) and I’ve loved the feel and sound of most of them, some vintage and some not. I’ve kept the ones I really couldn’t dare to part with. I don’t know why I never did take a Tele home though. Always loved ‘em, always wanted one.

But it’s that typical situation where as much as I’ve liked and wanted one, there’s always been that one other that I’ve wanted more for longer (currently a Rick Turner Model 1). I might just have to freakin’ get one finally.

Don’t worry about it. As long as you enjoy it that’s all that matters. But then again this is coming from a guy that thinking of buying a Gibson Les Paul Standard Goldtop, just because I love that guitar.

Cool! I’m in the process of building myself a mustang. Figure if I’m gonna drop the cash, I’ll get it to my specs.

Beautiful color on that tele! Can’t wait for pictures!

Gold top LP = sexy as hell. I thought about going that route, but I've decided I just can't not have a Tele. Only thing I think I'll need to do is swap out the pickguard...it looks like parchment in the pictures, but I'm told it's actually mint green. Eh, I'll see how it looks, but I like a parchment pickguard.

Yeah. I was also looking at a custom shop 58 reissue. I have a thing for expensive Gibson LPs.

I picked up one of these for a song and a dance not long ago. Even comes with a stop bar if you’re opposed to the Bigsby.

I did the same thing three times last year. Custom Shop Rosewood Telecaster, then a Gibson Les Paul traditional goldtop with P90s and Bigsby, and most recently Gibson ES-Les Paul in wine red. And that’s why I don’t have enough for a decent down payment on a new Wrangler. The CS Twisted Tele pickups scream if the Texans don’t do it for you. Can’t wait to see pics of the real deal. Whoa. Now that’s a collection. That gold top is gorgeous...a LP with humbuckers is good, but P90s are what they’re for in my opinion.

That rosewood Tele is sick too. Nice axes across the board. Good work!

I already have a traditional so that’s why I was thinking of picking up a standard. It’s a 2014 though. We’ll see, it’s still a couple of grand.

Couple grand? I say CP all the way, though I prefer my guitars to be more “obscure”. Both my LPs are 2014MY, bought new, on clearance. The goldtop was from Sam Ash for $2100ish after taxes, and the ES-LP was from Guitar Center for $1716.75 out the door. They were both too good of a deal to pass.

I live in Canada. You gotta take the exchange rate into account. A newish LP on clearance is around $2k. Then there was the custom shop one I was looking at that was closer to $4k (not gonna buy that, but it’s nice to dream).

Ah. The Canadian dollar. Makes sense.
